The Streets of Iran was created by World Streets in 2012 in the hope of serving as an open, online, international knowledge base aiming to highlight the mobility challenges, accomplishments and eventual opportunities for improvement in Iranian cities. In doing so, we hoped to bring examples of sustainable transportation stories from around the globe and make them available in English and Farsi. At the same time, our idealistic aim was to contribute to better internal civil society information and collaborative networks which give those who share these concerns across Iran – different cities, different institutions, different disciplines, and different schools of thought concerning what cities and people need in terms of mobility and sustainable transportation.
[This project has in fact failed to take off, until now. But we continue to maintain the basic platform and frame in the hope that at some point it might prove of some use. A hope for dialogue and democracy in good time. Our goal at this point is to keep this window open, with at least a modicum of information on sustainable transport in Iran.]
